For your consideration today is a handsome Winterling cup and saucer duo with grey and black sea grass and birds on a white background. Platinum bands on the rim add a pleasing accent to the design. This is the WIG13 pattern. These fine pieces have an elegant composition, which is stylish yet subtle. The wisps of sea grass and the silhouette of a bird in flight have an abstract feel, bringing to mind images of the seashore.
Collectors of tea sets, German or Bavarian dinnerware, nature, or seashore items will find this a charming compliment to their collection.
The mark is crossed swords surrounded by a wreath. Beneath the mark are the words Winterling, Bavaria, Germany and the number 11. This is the mark of Porzellanfabrik Gebrüder Winterling A.G., which roughly translated means China Factory of the Winterling Brothers. A brief history of the company can be found on Porcelain Marks and More web site, http://www.porcelainmarksandmore.com/index.php
This mark was in use from about 1940 until 2004.
The cup stands 2 ¼ inches high and is 3 inches in diameter. The saucer is 6 inches in diameter. The saucer has some slight wear on the platinum trim due to gentle use. Otherwise, both pieces are in excellent condition with no visible chips, cracks or damage. These are gently used items but please examine the picture carefully and email me with any questions prior to purchase.
