Victorian: 15 Fans - Antique Lithographed Victorian Trade Cards. Lot includes:
H.I. & C.E. Clarke, Seedsmen & Florists, Springfield, Mass. 3-5/8 by 4-3/4 inches.
Girl Kissing Bird. A young girl holds a fan in one hand, a bird perching on a finger of her other hand kisses her. Reverse is blank. Card measures 2-1/2 by 4 inches, left edge has been trimmed. Glue residue on the back. Published by Sinclair.
Woman in blue dress, red stocking, on golden background. Reverse side is blank.
"With Best Wishes." Die-cut shaped fan with winter scene.
Several quarter-moon opened fan shaped cards in the top of my first photo: "Many Happy Returns of the day" embossed; dark blue background card with advertising on the reverse for A. Stowell, Boston, "Holiday Goods, Jewelry, Clocks, Bronzes, Art" measuring 5-1/2 inches across.
Smaller pieces with a variety of fan shapes, some die-cut and embossed: "Sweet as fragrant roses 'Tis to have a friend ..."
All images are original late-19th-century Victorian color lithographed trade cards, printed advertising material, and other paper ephemera such as greeting cards. Surface wear, creasing, glue residue, yellowing, rips, trimming, or edge chipping on most pieces; there's still good material here to recycle into your scrapbooks or creative projects.
Each item is an original card from a late-nineteenth century scrapbook. The image, printed by color lithography, is a chromolithograph, or "chromo."
