Tucker's Diaphoretic: Wilmarth, Brooklyn - 2 Red-backgound Antique Lithographed Victorian Advertising Trade Cards. Dr. H. A. Tucker's Diaphoretic Compound No. 59 "for all Aches and Pains." Two different designs with monochrome youths in classical costume posed against a bright red ground, with decorative floral ornaments. Advertising on the back, with 2 different testimonials, both dated 1879: Fredk. Schwalka, Commanding Search Party, Camp Daly, North Hudson Bay; and T. B. Pratt, American Tract Society, New York. "John R. Wilmarth, General Agent, 393 Clinton St., Brooklyn, N.Y." Cards each measure 2-1/2 by 4-1/8 inches. Light surface and edge wear on the face sides. Backs with some surface wear, peeling, and light glue residue.
Each item is an original card from a late-nineteenth century scrapbook. The image, printed by color lithography, is a chromolithograph, or "chromo."
