From the Preface:
" The Tarot as we know it today is a deck of seventy-eight cards consisting of two parts.
The first fifty-six cards are called Minor Trumps.
The other twenty-two cards are called Major Trumps or Major Arcana. "
" This commentary, dealing solely with twenty-two cards of the Major Arcana, attempts to
understand the cards as they relate to psychic development and psychology- in other words, as
a logos of the psyche.
Actual case histories have been included to show what the cards might mean for a person in a
particular moment in life. "
" Such symbolic reference points can offer a person a way to understand better the events,
experiences, and movements in his life.
To a psychologist who is concerned in his work with growth and its difficulties, it can be
especially useful as a means of taking bearings, like constellations among the stars. "
