Sapanule Cures, Bergh Commends - Antique Lithographed Victorian Advertising Trade Card. Blue-toned illustration of 2 Victorian couples strolling in fanciful landscape. Advertising on the back: "Cures Rheumatism, Neuralgia, Lumbago ... and all Catarrhal Affections.... Relieves exhaustion." Commended by Henry Bergh, President of American Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Measures 3-7/8 by 2-1/2 inches; trimmed on all sides. Back slightly yellowed from glue stains.
Each item is an original card from a late-nineteenth century scrapbook. The image, printed by color lithography, is a chromolithograph, or "chromo."
