Out Of The Past 1947
Out Of The Past (1947)
Robert Mitchum - Jane Greer - Kirk Douglas
Actor Robert Mitchum once said in an interview that these pictures were called "B" movies. That is until the French took a fancy to the genre and dubbed them film noir. Here is a classic from 1947, Out Of The Past. The elements of film noir usually are a story that goes into the past, a world-weary, anti-hero, a drop dead gorgeous femme fatal, double crosses, shady characters and great use of shadow and light. In the 60-plus years since it was made, Out Of The Past has it all: a riveting story with memorable characters. Mitchum's head-over heels character says to gorgeous Kathie, who stole the mobster's $40K: "You're like a leaf, floating from gutter to gutter." Kirk Douglas gives a razor-sharp performance in an early role.
Film noir in its day may not have been among the top billed flicks at the movie house, but they were entertaining. Tough cookies and louses. Weary PI's and glamorous dames. This collection has features including commentary by film noir specialist and author James Ursini, and French and Spanish subtitles, menus and scene selection. The DVD comes in a protective paper sleeve for light shipping, which is $3 in the U.S., $4 to Canada and $6 to Europe. This is region 1 (US, CA).
