Giants: Citizen Kabuto is an odd little game. It takes place on a small island populated by short, big-headed people who speak with Scottish accents. They are called Smarties. Out to sea the evil Sea Reapers plot to retake the island for themselves, and they've created a 30-foot-tall monster named Kabuto to help them with their task. To this world come the Meccarins, a trio of humanlike spacemen who wear powered armor and have jetpacks. They arrive and befriend the Smarties against the Sea Reapers, and Kabuto breaks free from Sea Reaper control. All heck breaks loose. Giants was developed by Planet Moon Studios, an offshoot of the wacky Shiny Entertainment studio that brought us Earthworm Jim and Sacrifice. It shows. The between-mission movies are hilarious and filmed inventively (using the game's graphics) throughout. You begin by portraying the Meccs as they puzzle out the new world and help people. Next you portray Delphi, a sexy sorceress Sea Reaper, and finally you get to walk in the massive footsteps of Kabuto himself. The game plays with arcade style; before you're done you'll have flown around and fired weapons, conjured spells, participated in a jet-ski race or two, and eaten just about everything that moves as the giant himself. It's dizzying, it's fun, and you'll never forget you played it. (Note: not for kids--strong language, nudity, violence, and adult humor throughout).
Sacrifice is a 3-D real-time fantasy strategy game with heavy action and role-playing elements. Five different gods, representing life, earth, air, fire and death, are all attempting to conquer the land and become its sole ruler. You play a wizard who may choose to follow any of the five gods, thus gaining their unique school of spells and powers; for example, the goddess of life may provide you with heal spells, while the god of fire may give you spells with destructive magics and summonings. The camera is always centred on your wizard in a third-person perspective. You can summon creatures to fight for you or blast your opponents into oblivion with the use of over 50 different spells. For every creature you kill, you must harvest its soul and sacrifice it to your god, gaining you more skills and spells. Your final objective is to kill the altar of your opponent, not just his wizard avatar, thus severing his link to his god and allowing your god to triumph.
Evolva, a tactical shoot-em-up for the PC, immerses the player in a visually stunning 3-D world, offering a rich game-playing experience. Driven by Computer Artworks' A-Life technology, this world and its alien inhabitants form a challenging environment. The player must fight against an alien parasite that has infected a planet. This parasite has an army of guardians to protect it, and they will have to be stopped if the player is to ultimately stop the parasite itself. The player takes control of a team of customizable creatures called Genohunters and guides them through a unique gaming world, mixing the excitement of a fast-paced shoot-em-up with the tactical elements of a strategy game.
