Man Who Fell To Earth 1976
region one (USA,CA)
David Bowie - Rip Torn - Candy Clark - Buck Henry
Special Anchor Bay edition two-disk set with restored footage, 2005.
The Man Who Fell To Earth is David Bowie's movie debut. This disk is a widescreen, high definition digital transfer, with audio commentary by Director Nicholas Roeg and actors Bowie and Buck Henry. The movie is beautifully photographed, and less a sci fi story than one of social isolation. Bowie is a space voyager from another world who comes to earth seeking water for his parched and dying planet. Instead of becoming master of this world, which his character was fully set up to do, he falls victim to it. Rock legend Bowie at the time was doing his Ziggie Stardust in a concert tour and seems to have been caught up in the notion.
Anchor Bay version is a crisper, sharper looking digital transfer than the Criterion. Anchor Bay also restored the 20 minutes of scenes deleted at the time of its 1976 release. The second disk has commetary, features, trailer. The two disks come in a paper DVD sleeve for light shipping, which is $4 in the U.S. Shipping to Canada is $5 and $6 Europe and everywhere else.
