I first saw The King of Marvin Gardens about a year ago. I don't know how I missed this gem. It is one of the most underrated and overlooked film ever, not just in America Lost and Found, the BBS Story. A story of dreams and dreamers, and where those dreams can sometimes end. Jack Nicholson and Bruce Dern are brothers, so different yet so alike in this movie. Nicholson's performances are always far more superb when his characters are internal, when the evolution is inward. But that's just one person's take. Fine jobs by Ellen Burstyn and Julie Anne Robinson. A great film is breathed new life among the excellent group put out by The Criterion Collection. The best part of these updated releases are the features, which include commentary by the actors and director Bob Rafelson in 2010, outtakes and theatrical trailers. There is also the anemic sight of 1972 Atlantic City, enduring a slow death.
