January Poems, M. Robinson & Watts - Antique Lithographed Victorian Series Trade Card. Published by Marcus Ward, a lovely design with snowdrops against a golden background. Poem on face side by Mary Robinson: "January. The Snowdrop, Winters timid child, Awakes to life..." Short poem on back by A.A. Watts and information about the month: "By the early Romans this month was called Januarius...Our Saxon ancestors called January Wolf-monat..." Card measures 3-1/2 by 5 inches. Light surface wear; top left corner creased, chipped.. Back lightly yellowed.
Each item is an original card from a late-nineteenth century scrapbook. The image, printed by color lithography, is a chromolithograph, or "chromo."
