E.
P. DUTTON, Stated First Edition 1960, Interesting
because rear of dust jacket also has emblem which says “Weekly
Reader Children's Book Club.
8.5”
Tall x 6” wide. 238 pages. An Approved Selection of
“Parents' Magazine's Book Club For Children.
THE
VOLUME:
VERY GOOD condition inside and out.
Virtually no edge wear to the illustrated paper-covered boards.
Very slightly age-toned, but very supple and clean interior
pages. Many charming illustrations by the Robert MacLean. No
writing or other marks. There are small tape-remainder marks on
the inner covers and flaps of dust jacket, where the were once
joined. Tape is gone, but left a small brown stain.
THE
DUST JACKET: Original
GOOD+ Dust Jacket
still present and in very nice condition over all with some
scrapes and pin-holes on the spine, which can be seen in photo.
Illustration in great shape, but for that. The rear flap had a
small form for the child owner to fill out and possibly a
detachable bookmark. “Doreen” filled in the blanks and
neatly cut along the dotted line (for bookmark I think). So rear
flap is a bit narrower.
STORY:
Ever since his father had
been lost at sea, Jeptha had gradually accepted the changes in
his life. When some new people moved into his neighborhood he
was overcome with curiosity. He'd heard they were a mad
household with a rather strange boy about Jeptha's age, Indian
servants, and a chained cheetah, of all things! He discovered in
John a loyal friend. Between them they worked out a wonderful
solution for two families who had faced tragedy and learned to
rise above it.
