One
of several surplus books purchased in large book lots, which I'm
pairing with bran new facsimiles and listing at very low prices
(less than the value of the dj alone), hoping to find them a good home.
Bobbs
Merrill 1900 Probable
First Edition book in Lovely Reprint Facsimile Dust Jacket
Many
beautiful illustrations by F. C. Yohn.
THE
VOLUME: Exterior covers are worn and rubbed,
particularly along spine edges, tips, and board corners. Gilt on
front cover illustration and titles is still quite bright,
bright though somewhat rubbed on spine. The interior of the book
is predominantly very clean. A previous owner wrote their name
and address on the inner front board. The first blank end paper
has been removed, and the loose paper in the hinge area reglued.
Feels sturdy, but still should be handled with care.
THE
DUSTJACKET: A NEW FACSIMILE
copy of the dust jacket, which sold with the Reprint
Edition of this story. I'm guessing the First Edition used
this same illustration since both the dust jacket illustration
and the interior illustrations are by F. C. Yohn. The dust
jacket was made from a high resolution scan of an original in
very good condition from my own collection, and printed with
archival quality paper and inks (80 yr inks) and protected by an
archival quality dust jacket cover.
THE
STORY: “'To
the historian,' says Mr. Thompson, 'this may seem but an idle
romance, while to the lover of romance, it may look strangely
like a history.' If the truth be known, though, the tale of
Alice Tarleton weaves out the poignant story of her love for a
young rebel officer against the glorious historical background
of Colonel George Rogers Clark's conquest of the Wabash Valley
in the revolutionary days.”
