DOUBLEDAY
DORAN, 1928 Stated First Edition 8”
Tall x 5.5” wide. 324 pages.
THE
VOLUME:
VERY GOOD condition. Very clean boards
and pages. Lower spine and lower board corners show some wear.
Corners are lightly bumped. Very little wear otherwise. The
spine leans a bit. Book is beautifully tight and sturdy. No
writing or inscriptions, labels, etc. End papers are decorated
by a very subtle honeycomb pattern.
THE
DUST JACKET: GOOD
original dust jacket by M.
Morris with some chipping along edges as shown in photo. The DJ
spine has darkened quite a bit. The price is still present on
the front flap of the dust jacket. Photo has a little bit of
glare on the front panel, which may be a little deceptive. Front
panel illustration is complete with tiny chip to border at upper
edge.
THE
STORY: “No one would have suspected that Henry
Meadows, honest and chivalrous scholar, might have ruined his
daughters' lives—through his own anxiety for their welfare.
And he himself would have been shocked and horrified had any one
told him that his antagonism to their suitors had its root in
jealousy . . . In this dramatic story of subtly clashing
temperaments, Frank Swinnerton returns to the manner of Nocturne
and The Elder Sister; and perhaps in its insight into the
feminine mind and heart A Brood of Ducklings is the most
powerful of his novels thus far.”
