Sedum Mexicanum is one of many flowering succulents known as stonecrops. They are ornamental in both their foliage and their daytime blooms. Sedum Mexicanum, or Mexican Stonecrop, very easy plant to grow, and can thrive almost anywhere. The leaves of Mexican Stonecrop are soft-textured like those of sceletium or delosperma. But sedum is much easier to root. Sedum leaves tend to be compact early in the spring, spreading out as the season progresses. During flowering you can barely see anything but the hundreds of gentle blooms. They look like yellow pixies, a star of yellow petals topped with multiple fine stamens. Like delosperma cooperii, which is also revered for it blooms, Mexican Stonecrop can survive drought and frosty winters. Sedum is a perfect groundcover for rock gardens, and it can even be used in beds in place of mulch to keep out weeds and prevent soil from drying out. A few plugs will quickly spread out to cover several feet in a season. While it may cross over and mix into lawn, it is not really invasive because it can be lift out with little ease. Sedum can be grown from the cracks of rocks or draped to overhand a stone wall. They can even be grown as container plants, especially in hanging baskets or mixed with other succulents. If you’re looking for something versatile and inexpensive, even if you don’t have a green thumb, this is a good choice.
This lot includes 10 cuttings. Average sie is 4-6 inches. Cuttings are known to root easily simply by removing the bottom few leaves and putting the tips in a moist well-draining soil. Washed sand, cactus soil and compost have all been used to root these cuttings. Rooting hormone is optional but not necessary. (Cactus in the pic is not included) |
