I'm
doing a little “Spring Cleaning.” Offering book, dj and bookmark at the price of the dust jacket alone.
GROSSET
& DUNLAP, 1909
There
are four black and white illustrations by Howard Chandler
Christy. I have no idea who to give credit to for the jacket,
but it's a very fun wraparound dust jacket as you can see.
THE
VOLUME: A very sturdy, tight,
square and clean copy with a greatly faded spine and spine edges
and some color loss along lower board edges like that clearly
seen in the photo above. Hinges are great. Pages are clean and
slightly age-toned. Endpapers show some darkening. There is a
very discreet Christmas gift inscription and an inventory number
on the first end paper.
THE
DUSTJACKET: A Carefully
Restored FACSIMILE copy
of the dramatic wrap-around dust jacket, which sold with this
edition from my own
collection.
The jacket was made from a scan of an original in very good
condition, printed on one sheet of acid-free paper by an
archival inkjet printer (60-80 yr. inks), and preserved in
archival plastic. It comes with matching bookmark.
THE
STORY: Lawrence
Blakely wasn't taking any chances. The briefcase between his
legs held evidence that would convict a powerful figure in
Washington of forgery. An average man to whom nothing
interesting ever happens finds himself involved with the police,
a love affair, and murder. Excellent Mystery by renowned mystery
writer, Mary Roberts Rinehart, who is one of my personal
favorites.
