Full Title: Thelma, a Norwegian Princess

DONOHUE, Early Reprint Circa 1910, 8”x 6.5” 415 pages

THE VOLUME: VERY GOOD or Better condition. Beautiful volume in wonderful condition. Extremely clean inside and out. Tight and square, hinges great, corners sharp. Virtually no edge wear to cloth. Lovely decorated end papers. One small nick in paper near hinge of front end paper visible in photo. No writing or inscriptions. Much of the white filler in publisher's name on lower spine has been rubbed away. (See photo.) Otherwise white is bright.

THE DUSTJACKET: A NEW FACSIMILE copy of the dust jacket, which sold with the Hurst Edition of this story, made from a scan of an original in good condition, printed on one sheet of acid-free paper by an archival inkjet printer (80 yr. inks), and preserved in archival plastic. The publishers Donohue and Hurst printed many of the same popular titles at the same time. Their dust jackets were also very similar so I decided to pair them in this case. They work beautifully together I think.

THE STORY: Thelma lives in a Norwegian seacoast village with her father. A hard life because of her father's insistance that he is a descendant of the Viking kings, which leads to neighborhood resentment. Lord Philip Errington, bent on escaping the clutches of the amorous Lady Clara, arrives in the village and he and Thelma instantly fall in love. They marry and Thelma returns with him to England. There she is bewildered by the shallowness of society and eventually led to believe that her husband is being unfaithful to her by Lady Clara. She returns to Norway. Philip follows. The book was made into a silent film in 1922.
