THE
VOLUME: Predominantly very
clean book inside and out. Front and rear covers are very clean.
The spine has darkened a bit and shows light foxing. The
interior of the book is exceptionally clean. No writing or
inscriptions. I saw no dog-ears or tears, etc. Pages are lightly
age-toned. Paper had peeled up near the front interior hinge and
has been reglued and feels quite sturdy now. (Photo provided of
repair.) But I always suggest careful handling.
Minimal
edge wear over all. Some wear at board corners and spine tips,
with some fraying at lower spine edge, now halted with fray
check. Board corners are bumped.
THE
DUST JACKET: A Carefully Restored
FACSIMILE copy
of the very scarce Dust Jacket which was issued with this
edition. It was made from a high resolution scan of an original
dust jacket in very good condition from my own collection. The
jacket was printed using archival quality paper and inks (80 yr
inks) and preverved in an archival dust jacket cover with a
little bit of ultra-violet protection built in.
THE
STORY: “A
group of irresponsible college boys set out to haze one of their
classmates who is universally looked upon as a 'goody-good'
and a 'mamma's boy.' As a climax they take him by force
to a theatre and make him witness a cheap vulgar performance.
When fire breaks out, he saves the lives of his fellows, and it
is his example as witnessed by Paul Courtland which changes the
latter young man's life as though he had seen a vision. He
turned aside from a promising worldly career and began a life of
personal service to his fellows. The story of his aspirations is
in itself a fine and sincere thing.”
