GROSSET
& DUNLAP 1905, First Reprint I believe
THE
VOLUME: This is a very special copy of this book
because it contains the lovely Edmund Frederick frontispiece,
which is seldom seen. The exterior of the book is rather worn
and soiled in places as the photos show. There is some fraying
at lower spine and a little beginning at the upper spine too and
board corners. Moderate edge wear to most edges. The interior of
the book is predominantly quite nice. The first end paper had
been removed, but the hinge has been repaired and the book feels
quite sturdy. The rear hinge is wholly intact. Pages are
predominantly clean. I saw about ten pages near the end with
soiling.
THIS
DUST JACKET: A Carefully
Restored FACSIMILE copy
of the very scarce jacket by Edmund Frederick from my personal
collection. The dust jacket was made from a scan of an original
in good condition, printed on one sheet of acid-free paper by an
archival ink jet printer (80 yr. inks), and preserved in
archival plastic. I spent many hours on this particular dust
jacket, bringing it back to like new condition.

THE
STORY: “The
Hollisters, a bright, spirited, wholesome family, are compelled
to move into the country. After many efforts to secure a home,
Shirley, eldest of the Hollisters, contrives a way out by
renting a magnificent old stone barn at a ridiculously low
price, transforming it into a house. The owner of the barn is
not an ordinary landlord, as you will see, for he is a young man
with fine ideals, and he is not content with establishing
Shirley and her family in the quaintly beautiful old place, but
makes the world a much happier place to live in for all of
them.”
