Several years ago, when Marin's grandmother asked her what she wanted for Christmas, she realized what she wanted most was the recipe for her grandmother's apple pie, or "tender pie" and then she began to wonder how many other grandmothers had recipes that meant as much to their families. She started asking people everywhere, and this collection of recipes and reminiscences is the result. Recipes range from Cheese Blintzes to Artichoke Soup to Abuelita's Flan; each is accompanied by a brief, nostalgic note from the contributor and a photograph, many of them period pieces. Some of the grandmothers are in their nineties, others are under fifty, and they come from all over the country. Marin's charming book is recommended for larger collections.
