You are bidding on a wonderful 1940s Dutch Boy and Girl Wishing Well planter or vase by Shawnee! I found this piece at an estate sale along with more vintage vases, planters, art pottery, and a lot of other interesting items! In the middle of Amish Country in MO.
This planter is so cute! The planter is rectangular with the well serving as a the vessel for holding a small plant. An amorous little Dutch boy is gazing at a bashful Dutch girl beside a wishing well. The boy and girl are painted in shades of blue and yellow on ivory. The rest of the planter is glazed a pretty green color.
The planter is 8 1/4 inch long by 3 inch wide by 6 1/2 inch tall. The well is 2 3/4 inches in diameter. The front of the planter is imprinted with Wishing Well and there are small hearts on either side of the inscription.
The planter is marked Shawnee USA 710
This piece needs to be cleaned, and I did not wash it. Otherwise, it is in good condition. There are no chips, flakes, or cracks!
PLEASE NOTE I have done research on this piece, I know there are others out there. BUT if you look at my pictures you can see that this one is made different. The Dutch Girl has her face turned into the side of the Wishing Well. For your collectors this can probably put a closer date to this Wishing Well Planter. The dealer I bought this from said she has owned this for many, many years from her personal collection. She is in her 80's.
Please ask questions! I do my best to describe items, but I am not an expert in all areas.
