 Description:

The Torch is Passed The Associated Press Story of The Death of a President

Condition and description: There is some wear to the cover of this book, visible in the images. Some of the pages are also lightly stained. This is a 40 year old book. Binding is tight and pages, for the most part, are clean. Oversize "coffee-table" book

This is the original 1963 issue and not a reprint and the book covers the Associated Press reporting on the assassination of John F. Kennedy through the state funeral.
What adds to the interest is a number of newspaper clippings from that period that were found inside the book. They were not preserved in any sense - I believe they were put in the book and forgotten about. Many of the clippings are aged and some have been taped where they tore. Some have small tears. Among the clippings:

  • First Lady Displays Courage in Ordeal
  • Jackie Goodbye: Wedding Ring
  • The Shame of Dallas Gives Way to Horror
  • Leaders of World Gather for Funeral
  • In the Capitol: Day of Shock and Mourning
  • John-John Wants a Flag for Daddy
  • Hour by Hour to Death
  • Kennedys: Family of Triumph, Tragedy
  • At the Airport, Disbelief Fought Misery
  • At the Scene of Slaying (Oswald), They Saw It Coming
  • Mrs. Kennedy Flying to Cape Tomorrow
  • They Come To Honor (full page)
  • For the Last Time, A Hail to the Chief (full page of photographs)
  • Long Island Stunned, Grieves with Nation
  • All over the World, the Bells Toll
  • A Garish but Quiet Night at Times Square
  • A Sniper Fires, A Leader Falls (Full page of photographs of the assassination)
  • The World Mourns President Kennedy (Full page of comments from world leaders)
  • With Mrs. Johnson, LBJ Comes First (Full page article on Ladybird Johnson)
  • Full page picture of Jack Ruby approaching Oswald

There is also:
  • a one-page CCEA Newsletter from February 28, 1964 containing a typed poem in honor of President Kennedy by an Arthur D. Bradford.
  • A 2 page mimeo-graphed Cabell County (West Virginia) Public Schools School Bulletin, December 6, 1963 containing a poem "The Riderless Horse, seeminly also written by Bradford, who was the principal of Altizer Elementary School. The second page contains an article "Kennedy's Greatness Touched Us".
  • A page torn from January 1964 American Red Cross Journal containing quotations from John F. Kennedy.
