Antique Photo Sets of Two Sisters Victorian Photographs Interesting

Here is a set of photos for sale that tell some sort of story - just not sure what it is.
Meet Mamie and Rita. Mamie and Rita were clearly sisters at the turn of the century. They went to a photography studio and had several pictures taken of themselves. There are headshots of each, then photos of them together and long shots of each of them.
The odd thing is that inscribed on the backs of the photos are inscriptions "To My Aunt, From Rita" "To My Uncle From Mamie" To Grandma from Mamie and Rita". HOWEVER they clearly NEVER GAVE THEIR PICTURES AWAY!
Some are still in the cello! In the same box, I also discovered photos of Rita's wedding. Mamie is there, as the supportive maid of honor for her sister. The only other photos of Mamie or Rita are one school photo of Rita when she was younger and one snapshot of Rita outside with her new husband. She looks quite a bit happier here than she does in her wedding photo; poor girl! All these will be included in this lot.
Who were they and why did these two beautiful young sisters have so many expensive photos taken, for the intention of giving them away and then they kept them? Did something happen to the relatives? Did they get caught up in their own lives and tossed the pictures aside and just forgot to send them?
We'll never know. But here they are all together for sale. Surely they never knew that someone would be selling their lovely images and wondering about them 100 years later!
