1944 FIRST DAY COVER SAILING S.S.SAVANNAH + 2 OTHERS

This is a lot of 3 old envelopes one of which is a First Day Cover. I have managed to learn what a first day cover is, but that's about it. The top envelope has the postmark date 5-22-1944 from Kings Point N.Y. and sent to Bessie Smith in Wash. D.C. The left says First Day Cover on top and on the bottom "125th Anniversary of the Sailing of the S.S. Savannah". Drawing of the ship in the middle. The stamp is a 3 cent "First Steamship to Cross the Atlantic" and has the dates 1819-1944. Good condition except the back is sealed, which can be opened with heat applied. I put these other two envelopes in in case someone can use them. They are in rough shape. The middle has the end torn away and was sent from a Pfc. Wightman which is also the name printed beside an eagle emblem. It is address to Hyattsville, Md. which is also printed on a sign hanging from the name. The is an artist signature underneath- Massy. It has a U.S. Army APO Oct. 6, 1945 postmark. The third, also rough, has a picture of Eli Whitney on the left and is address to Mary Jacques in Wash. D.C. but was not mailed.
