Electric Cookery by Hotpoint, 1939 Advertising Cookbook, 48p

Well-illustrated general purpose recipe and instruction book probably included with purchase of a Hotpoint stove in 1939. Color photographs of many dishes (an unusual touch in those days), and lots of line drawn illustrations -- the best of which are the impish Kewpie-faced elves basting the turkey on the cover.

Recipes were "prepared by the Home Economics Department, Edison General Electric Appliance Company, Inc.", of Chicago, Illinois. Divided into the following chapters: Soups, Meats, Thrift Cooker Meals, Dishes That Stick to a Man's Ribs, Oven Meals by the Timer Clock, Vegetables, Breads, Fruits, Cakes, Pies, Desserts, Recipes for Mother's Helper. (No warnings about parental supervision in those days!)

In excellent condition. Pages are clean, straight, and tightly bound. Covers are whole and bright. Minor foxing on inside back cover. Front cover has slight edge wear, a small area where the illustration has rubbed off, and the owner's name and date (July 1939) written in ink on the turkey. On the title page in fine print it indicates the existence of an index on page 88, but there is no sign that pages were removed, and a sticker was placed beneath the last chapter on the Table of Contents page -- this was evidently an abridged version.
